Having an Medium Rigid (MR) Licence allows you to drive:

Light Rigid (LR) vehicles with 2 axles, front steer & rear drive axles with a GVM (Gross Vehicle Mass) up to but not exceeding 8,000kg (8tons) maximum

Medium Rigid (MR) can carry over 8,000 kg (8 tons), and up to but not exceeding, 15,000 kg (15 tons) maximum
-
Tow carry a trailer up to GVM of 9,000 kg (9 tons)
Vehicles must not be articulated (no pivot/joint between cab and trailer
Licence Requirements (NT, Australia-Specific):
To apply for an Northern Territory LR or MR licence, you must:
✅ Hold an Northern Territory Class C licence (car licence) for at least 12 months
✅ Complete driver training with a Registered Training Organisation: NT TRUCK TRAINING & TESTING
✅ Pass the practical driving test
✅ Pass the Heavy Vehicle Theory Test (on road rules and heavy vehicle safety)

NT TRUCK TRAINING & TESTING - MEDIUM RIGID COURSE OUTLINE

One day course

Allows up to 3 hours in truck training which includes:

Pre-Operational Checks

Load Securing (Dog & Chain, Ratchet Strapping and rope tie downs)

Visual Vehicle Inspections
-
Truck Controls
-
Safe & Defensive Driving
-
Hazard Avoidances
-
NT Road Rules Refresher
-

Practical Driving Assessment approximately 2.5 hours
** Truck Hire and Assessment included **
Once you have passed your practical assessment, you can go straight to Motor Vehicle Registration (MVR) to complete the theory test, once passed then you can upgrade your licence.
Only then you show off that solid truckie arm!!
