Why?

Because completing this course doesn’t just qualify you to drive heavy rigid trucks with manual crashbox transmissions — it also gives you the easiest, most flexible path to upgrade to higher licence classes like HC (Heavy Combination) and MC (Multi Combination).

What is the HR Open Licence?

The HR Open Licence is a non-synchromesh (manual crashbox) licence — meaning you’ll learn to expertly handle powerful trucks equipped with manual non synchromesh gearboxes, like the iconic Road Ranger 18-speed.

This licence represents the highest level of Heavy Rigid licence and teaches you essential skills like double-clutching and rev-matching, giving you the edge to drive complex manual trucks confidently and safely.

In-Demand Skills:

Mastering the manual crashbox sets you apart in the industry — many employers prefer drivers who can handle manual trucks.

✔️ Ideal for mining, long-haul, and heavy freight work

✔️ Future-proof your trucking career

✔️ Easier upgrade to HC & MC licences

✔️ Full manual (crashbox) endorsement

Examples of Vehicles You Can Drive with an HR Licence:

  • Medium/Large delivery trucks (e.g., furniture, appliances)

  • Commercial or shuttle buses with pivot

  • Mobile libraries or food trucks (large and purpose-built)

  • Tippers or flatbeds with 3 axles
